The hierarchical nature of training engagement theory provides a broad account of how processes at various levels in the organizational hierarchy influence one another and contribute to the success or failure of training programs. Abstract In May 2017, a workshop was held in Cairo, Egypt, to explore ways in which researchers doing research on topics related to the Nile Basin can work with journalists, aiming for better communication of science through media. The workshop hosted 40 participants, including communication specialists, scientists, academics, policy makers and NGOs' representatives from Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan and international organizations. The workshop concluded that researchers and journalists needed more training in communicating and reporting science. In this respect, IHE Delft Institute partnered with SciDev.Net to develop and run an online course, 'Science Communication Skills for Water Cooperation and Diplomacy', which is described in this chapter. The main objective of the online course that took place between October 2018 and March 2019 was to build the capacity of scientists to engage with the media and effectively communicate science, and to deal with the River Nile as a vehicle of cooperation and development rather than conflict. Overall, the course had largely met the desired objectives. Most respondents greatly appreciated practical exercises, especially those on writing a press release and designing a communication strategy. The training platform was accessible and easy to use for most participants. However, there were areas that did not work as expected, most notably the length of the course.

Abstract Globalization is a comprehensive phenomenon with significant implications for global health. The globalization of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) is currently still a work in progress, with these devices slowly making inroads into Asia, Australasia, South America, and South Africa. Although MIGS companies can enjoy a quantum leap in economies of scale by serving global markets rather than only a confined domestic market, there are considerable economic, logistical, training, legal, and regulatory challenges that they need to overcome. The globalization of MIGS may benefit glaucoma patients worldwide, by reducing medication burden, improving the quality of life, and potentially decreasing the global incidence of glaucoma-related blindness.

AbstractIn the last decade, Sentiment Analysis and Affective Computing have found applications in different domains. In particular, the interest of extracting emotions in healthcare is demonstrated by the various applications which encompass patient monitoring and adverse events prediction. Thanks to the availability of large datasets, most of which are extracted from social media platforms, several techniques for extracting emotion and opinion from different modalities have been proposed, using both unimodal and multimodal approaches. After introducing the basic concepts related to emotion theories, mainly borrowed from social sciences, the present work reviews three basic modalities used in emotion recognition, i.e. textual, audio and video, presenting for each of these i) some basic methodologies, ii) some among the widely used datasets for the training of supervised algorithms and iii) briefly discussing some deep Learning architectures. Furthermore, the paper outlines the challenges and existing resources to perform a multimodal emotion recognition which may improve performances by combining at least two unimodal approaches. architecture to perform multimodal emotion recognition.

Abstract:
Abstract Horse-related events have been popular in Iceland for many decades, as well as in other countries. Such events attract many people that are both enthusiastic about and involved in horse-related activities. The biggest horse event in Iceland since 1950 has been the National Championships of the Icelandic Horse - Landsmót - which enables the owners of the best horses in Iceland to come together and compete in various categories. Landsmót is organized by the Icelandic Equestrian Association (Landssamband hestamannafélaga [National Association of Equestrian Associations], referred to as LH) and the Farmers Association of Iceland in cooperation with local horse clubs that act as hosts for Landsmót. In this chapter, the Landsmót events held in the years 1998-2008 are studied from a strategic management point of view. The chapter looks into the lessons learnt from the events, based on a four-dimensional approach to strategic management. The main goal of the research, which was completed in 2010, was to bring forward important knowledge and information on the Landsmót events that could be used in the strategy and the development work for upcoming events over the following years. The study of Landsmót 1998-2008 was based on a case study method. Six cases were studied from an illustrative and explorative point of view. The study also made use of focus groups, interviews, questionnaires and document analysis. The study concluded that Landsmót as a biennial event is a celebration of success in breeding and training of the Icelandic horse. Landsmót is also a social gathering, uniting people who are dedicated to the Icelandic horse, both within Iceland and from abroad. The study also concluded that Landsmót is about competition and ranking of the best horses, while at the same time it is an event true to tradition and family activity. Finally, the main conclusions reveal that Landsmót is very important for marketing and communication of the qualities of the Icelandic horse.

Abstract:
AbstractThe Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is a framework for scaling agile methods in large organizations. We have found several experience reports and white papers describing SAFe adoptions in different banks, which indicates that SAFe is being used in the banking industry. However, there is a lack of academic publications on the topic, the banking industry is missing in the scientific reports analyzing SAFe transformations. To fill this gap, we present a study on the main challenges with a SAFe transformation at a large full-service bank. We identify the challenges in the bank under study and compare the findings with experience reports from other banks, as well as with research on SAFe transformations in other domains. Many of the challenges reported in this paper overlap with the generic SAFe challenges, including management and organization, education and training, culture and mindset, requirements engineering, quality assurance, and systems architecture. However, we also report some novel challenges specific to the banking domain, e.g., the risk of jeopardizing customer relations, stability, and trust of external stakeholders. This study validates several SAFe-related challenges reported in previous work in the banking context. It also brings up some novel challenges specific to the banking industry. Therefore, we believe our results are particularly useful to practitioners responsible for SAFe transformations at other banks.

Abstract:
AbstractDenmark, Sweden and Finland are Nordic welfare states that historically have put a high value on both basic and adult education. Citizens should have equal opportunities to participate in education and society. Adult education has been a topical means to include citizens in active societal participation. This has been realised by providing special support for those in need. Currently, the dominance of neo-liberal market economies has challenged this educational ideology, and adult education has increasingly become reduced to only one of its functions, that of employability. Besides formal education, even informal learning has been harnessed for developing and maintaining work-related skills. Budget cuts have affected adult education while resources have increased on guidance and counselling, transition from basic to upper secondary education, education for the low-skilled and continuing training for workforce. Drawing on the history and present challenges this chapter discusses the possibilities to strengthen social inclusion through adult education. In the focus are groups that are at risk of staying outside the education society. The consequences of unfinished basic education and recently the educational needs of migrants and asylum seekers have revealed the largely unattended challenges of young adults and the vulnerability involved in comparison to the relatively high educated mainstream population. Our research focusing on social inclusion of vulnerable groups through differentiated support activities provides space to discuss, how adult education may regain its leading role in enhancing equal opportunities towards active political, social and economic participation in the Nordic societies.
