General rules

The IEEE Manual of Style does not provide any explicit rules for referencing an archival document. However, taking into account the IEEE template for citing unpublished materials, you can use the following reference template for an archival document:

Author(s). “Document title,” dateArchive NameCityCountrydocument location.

N.B.:

  • If you are giving the document’s descriptive title, do not put any quotation marks around the Document title element.
  • In the document location slot, give the details necessary to locate the document in the archive: fund/collection, folder, file, etc.

For an archival document accessed online, add the Internet source details to the reference (see more here).

For the rules of giving authors’ names in IEEE Style, see this article.
