Journal article: how to cite in IEEE Style?

Cita una fonte nel formato IEEE in modo facile e corretto

Scegli il tipo di fonte:

General rules

To cite an article from a scholarly journal in IEEE Style, use the following basic reference template:

Author(s), “Article title,” Journal Titlevolumeissue, p(p). pagesmonth year.

N.B.:

  • If the volume or issue numbers are missing, omit the corresponding elements from the bibliographic reference.
  • If the month of publication is missing, omit this element.
  • The title of the journal should be given in the abbreviated form.

For the specifics of giving authors’ names in IEEE references, see this article.

For a journal article accessed online, add the Internet source details to the reference. If the source also has a DOI, it should be given after the year of publication in the alphanumeric form:

Author(s), “Article title,” Journal Titlevolumeissue, p(p). pagesmonth year, doi: DOI. Accessed: date. [Online]. Available: URL

N.B.:

  • Do not put a full stop after the URL element.
  • Put a full stop after the DOI element.

As the IEEE Manual contains examples with different references with URLs/DOIs, the recommendations of universities may offer different reference templates: with or without the date of access, with the DOI as a hyperlink, etc.
