What’s new in ABNT NBR 6023:2025
The new edition of the standard corrects and updates the previous edition for compiling accurate references to different types of sources. Among other things, the following changes are to be noted:
- Journal articles. Compared to ABNT 6023:2018, the 2025 standard provides examples for references with e-locators in electronic articles not having page numbers. Also, giving the ISSN number for journal is no longer required (becomes optional). References to journals with supplements have been modified.
- Court cases. ABNT 6023:2025 now requires adding “Julgado em” before the date of the decision.
- Electronic sources. Several changes in examples of references (namely in terms of giving the publisher’s name).
- Podcasts. In ABNT NBR 6023:2025, the interviewee’s name now goes in the author’s position (in contrast to ABNT NBR 6023:2018, where the interviewee was considered a secondary person).
- Miscellaneous. Among other minor changes, it is worth noting that the abbreviation ca. is now italicised in NBR 6023:2025 when the exact year of publication is unknown.
